The Didyerds original instrument was a brass percussion piece, and has since evolved into an electric piano.
Its name derives from the Latin word didier, meaning to sound, or produce.
The instrument’s name was also taken from a word that means “sounds good” in Greek, a reference to its acoustic quality.
The Didierds original sound was considered to be too much for the instruments playing in the studio, so the Didyerdoo added a little of their own to make the sound more dynamic.
The sound of the instrument has evolved over the years as more instruments have been added, including a bass and drums, but its still a solid piece of percussion.
It has also been played by the likes of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, and Bruce Springsteen.
